ALDI'S customer satisfaction ratings have slipped, but at 92.5 per cent it ranks 500 basis points better than rivals, according to the latest Roy Morgan research.
IGA and Coles rank next at 87.5 per cent, followed by Woolies at 85.5 per cent.
The rankings are, of course, but a guide and sales figures are the key test of a retailer’s performance.
The next reporting round comes in a couple of weeks, with most of the focus on the performance of the discretionary retailers, and of course whether Coles is maintaining its momentum.
The market will also be looking for any confirmation from Woolies that is has slowed a refurbishment program for its supermarkets in order to bring more emphasis on the Masters home-hardware rollout.
But certainly it’s better to have good satisfaction numbers than bad ones.
Coles maintained its performance through all the negative publicity over its cut-price milk offer; claims by farmers that the retailer was killing the industry didn’t have any impact on customers, who have enjoyed cheaper milk prices.Industry studies have also shown the farm complaints were exaggerated.
