WOOLWORTHS has expanded its portfolio of private label whisky offerings, augmenting the chain's already swollen bundle of home brand beer and wine products as it seeks to drive further growth from high margin, in-house alcohol lines.
The nation's biggest supermarket group has launched the private label spirit Finnlaigh Irish Whiskey, being sold at Dan Murphy's, BWS and Woolworths Liquor. The whisky is being made by Ireland's only independent whisky distiller - the Cooley Distillery.
Over the past few years Woolworths has expanded its home brand spirits range, launching Nelson County Kentucky Bourbon, Traders Dry Gin, Mishka Vodka and in the past two years a Scotch and a tequila.
Private label spirits are proving less popular than home branded wine and beer products, with Woolworths and rival Coles accelerating their roll out of wines and beers to capture a growing slice of consumer spending at their supermarkets and satellite bottle shops.
