Coles is readying itself to deploy new self-service collection points for its online shopping channel; however, the supermarket giant has admitted it is worried about hackers stealing your groceries.
The trial, set to start next Tuesday in the Melbourne suburb of Windsor, sees two fridges with eight compartments each outside a Coles Express outlet. Once a shopper orders the groceries through the supermarket's website, the groceries will be delivered to the fridges for free.
The fridges are to be secured by heavy-duty, industrial-strength padlocks with Coles Express attendants set to identify people using their photo ID before opening them, rather than using a technological option like unique PIN locks or swipe cards.
