ACCC wraps up Metcash challenge

THE competition regulator has wrapped up its legal challenge to Metcash's $215 million purchase of Franklins by saying the Federal Court has to decide ''a very significant matter of principle'' about predicting the future in takeover cases.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission wants Justice Arthur Emmett to block the deal, alleging it will substantially lessen competition in the wholesale supply of groceries to independent supermarkets.
